Rainbow over Glamping Tent

GLAMPING IN DENMARK IS HERE TO STAY

Today a milestone has been set - for Glamping in Denmark and not least for Glamping Skovgaardsminde.
Glamping is a luxury experience seen from the outside, but behind the tent canvas threatens police reports, large fines, complaints and closures. Throughout the country, all our Glamping colleagues are fighting - not against each other, like any other competitive industry - but hand in hand to keep Glamping alive in Denmark. An industry that, in reality, cannot keep up with the increasing demand. The vast majority are small niche companies that have rethought outdoor tourism in Denmark at a time when the Danes needed local tourism in the country to be developed the most. But complaints from neighbors and police reports are commonplace for many Glamping companies, as the legislation does not keep up with the development.

Glamping Skovgaardsminde
In the spring of 2021, we find out that there are 2 complaint cases at Aalborg municipality regarding Glamping Skovgaardsminde. A complaint from a campsite owner who wants our business closed, as he can not understand we can run camping without a permit and may call it camping if we have less than 100 units.
On top of that lie repeated complaints from a neighbor throwing around untrue allegations and incorrect facts.
We have desperately reached out to other Glamping colleagues in the country, after a cry for help and experience in the area, but everyone we have talked to is currently struggling to keep their heads above water. The problem is that the legislation in the Glamping area is non-existent and we have almost felt the panic at the municipality as soon as we have mentioned Glamping. They have not known which "box" they could put us in, despite the fact that all new tourism strategies both at national and municipal level have a strong focus on authentic nature experiences, outdoor tourism and outdoor life. (Close to being the actual description of the kind of Glamping we operate)
Glamping is a luxury experience from the outside, but behind the tent canvas, closures, police reports, hefty fines and complaints are looming.
We have always claimed that Glamping Skovgaardsminde is "primitive luxury". An experience with nature, presence and tranquility at the center. This is what we brand ourselves on - these are the guests we attract. We have never wanted to be a "campsite" with 100 and the last thing we want is to destroy and disturb nature, on the contrary, we do the best we can to plant native flowers and leave the meadow wild on purpose.
It takes a lot more than a few complaints to pack up the tents! We have fought with everything we have and today we breathe a sigh of relief. We have received our permit from the municipality, so we can continue to run Glamping Skovgaardsminde. A land zone permit that bypasses the "camping regulations" and which admittedly has a sea of restrictions and restrictions, but not even these can overshadow the joy that the permit has finally accommodated our dream business.
We have received sublime support from both the local area (in addition to the neighbor) and would like to thank Hou Samråd, Hals Erhvervsforening, Aalborg Municipality, Start up Club Aalborg, Visit Aalborg/Destination Nord and not least our friends and family. We are both proud and grateful to live in a modern municipality and a supportive local community, with so many fantastic agencies that dare to invest in young entrepreneurs. With our land zone permit, Aalborg municipality and Glamping Skovgaardsminde are helping to set an example for other municipalities and Glamping companies throughout the country. And we hope that our permit can set a starting point for accommodation and goodwill to the industry.
We massively support an industry association that is currently being set up so that together we can take up the fight to move on an outdated legislation that is currently hampering an industry that can increase interest in outdoor experiences and nature tourism in Denmark.

If you know someone this could be relevant to, please put them in touch with us. It can make a world of difference for their future business and for our tourism in Denmark.
We hope Glamping in Denmark is here to stay.
